United Way of Greater McHenry County names executive director

Carole Peters of Marengo will begin Feb. 20

McHENRY – United Way of Greater McHenry County has a new executive director after a three-month, nationwide search.

Carole Peters of Marengo will lead the organization beginning Feb. 20. Former director Steven Otten resigned from the position in November to pursue other projects. Board President Robert Clark has served as interim director.

Peters has more than two decades of experience in volunteering and fundraising with organizations in McHenry County, and she also has served as part of the Marengo Area Schools Education Foundation.

Professionally, Peters has a strong background in sales, marketing, finance and business development. She most recently has worked as assistant vice president of adult education at Judson University in Elgin.

“After an extensive search and interview process, led by board member and campaign Chair Peter Murray along with the UMGMC Executive Committee, the Board of Directors is excited that Carole has agreed to join us,” Clark said.

“We were both impressed and excited by the number of qualified applicants, and are encouraged that Carole brings with her the attributes needed to lead our organization forward. The United Way of Greater McHenry County has been supporting nonprofit human service agencies in this county for 50 years, and with the leadership of Carole Peters, we look forward to continuing that support for the next 50 years and beyond.”

Peters has a passion for working with people and said her No 1. goal is to start building relationships with different agencies and United Way staffers right away.

”I will also continue to do outreach to the folks that are in my personal and professional network about the good work United Way does,” she said.

Peters said there would be a lot to learn about the organization and its future goals, but she is excited to hit the ground running.

“I think I can jump in with both feet,” she said. “I’m a learner. I can immerse myself in what I am doing. There is a conference at the end of the month that I’m excited about. I would love to learn from people who serve on the team and the board members.”
