Area Roundup: Lockport badminton places third at own invite

LOCKPORT – The host Porters took third place with 23 points, Lincoln-Way West (18) was fourth, Lincoln-Way Central (13) took sixth and Lincoln-Way East (12) was seventh at Saturday’s 12-team Lockport badminton Invite. Buffalo Grove beat TF South, 31-29, for first.

Placing second were Lockport’s Haley Egelhof (second singles) and East’s Jalyn Baumgartner (third singles). West’s Cassie Ruettiger (first singles) and East’s Sara Teichman (second singles) were third, while West’s Delayne Weston (second singles) was fourth. The Porters also placed second in second doubles and were third in first doubles.

BOYS TENNIS

Lemont goes 2-1: Will Totura (6-3, 6-4) and Peter Rogers (6-0, 6-4) won their singles matches and the Nick Urban-Nathaniel Burner (6-1, 6-0) won their doubles matches to lead Lemont (2-1) in its 3-2 victory over Reavis in Saturday's Lincoln-Way East quad.

In a 4-1 victory over Minooka, Burner (6-0, 6-0) won his singles match and the Nick Urban-Will Totura (6-0, 6-2), Charles Balisalisa-Arjun Reddigari (6-0, 6-4) and Matas Maleiska-Peter Rogers (6-4, 6-0) won tin doubles.

Urban and Burner won their doubles match, 6-3, 6-1 in a 4-1 loss to Lincoln-Way East.

Bremen Invite: Romeoville finished first, behind Miguel Rayos del Sol – who finished as the singles champion – and Kevin Lam and Martin Rayos del Sol – who finished as the doubles champions.

Plainfield Central 3, Lincoln-Way Central 2: J.P. Battistini and Josh Ingalls went undefeated on the day in singles play and Kevin Wayteck and Peter Sakellaris had a strong 6-3, 6-3 victory for Lincoln-Way Central (2-2).

GIRLS SOCCER

Minooka 1, Bolingbrook 0: Martina Kotrba picked up her third goal of the season for Minooka (4-2) and Benig made one save.

Oswego 2, Plainfield Central 1: McKenna Young scored the goal for Central (2-6, 0-1) in the Southwest Prairie home loss Thursday. Paige Fuller assisted.

Andrew 2, Lincoln-Way West 1: Natalie Tannura scored the goal for West (4-3, 0-1) off a Brianna Heyer assist in the SouthWest Suburban Red loss Thursday at Tinley Park.

GIRLS WATER POLO

Lincoln-Way West 14, Lincoln-Way Central 13: Delaney Shepherd, Nikki Howe, Kim Bernhard and Cailey Davern each scored goals for Central (5-4, 1-1) in Thursday's SouthWest Suburban loss.

MEN’S TENNIS

Lewis 8, Illinois-Springfield 1: At No. 1 doubles, Mate Srdanovic and Armand Levandi paired up for an 8-5 victory, while, Alan Fijalkowskiand Erik Aunapuu took No. 2 doubles, 8-4.

Srdanovic, Levandi and Fijalkowski won their respective singles matches 6-0, 6-0.

Aunapuu took his match 6-2, 6-3 for Lewis (9-6, 3-1) on Friday.

WOMEN’S TENNIS

Lewis 9, Illinois-Springfield 0: All doubles partners – Nora Mindiyarova, Megan Nguyen, Ana Banic, Jill Wetmore, Jaime Drez and Kayla Annerino – won their respective doubles matches, 8-0, for Lewis (8-5, 4-0) on Friday.

Mindyarova, Nguyen, Banic, Wetmore and Purcell added 6-0, 6-0 victory in their respective singles matches.
