Harold M. "Nels" Nelson, 91, Mt. Morris, died Saturday, Aug. 17, 2013 at Oregon Living and Rehabilitation Center, Oregon.
Nels was born April 22, 1922 in Asbury Park, N.J., the son of Harold L. and Susan (McCoy) Nelson.
Nels entered the US Army in 1947. He served in the Army Green Berets.
He married Nancie Carr McDermott on June 19, 1970 in Rock Island.
Nels is survived by his wife, Nancie Nelson, Mt. Morris; son, Andrew (Ruth) Nelson, Portsmouth, Va.; stepson, Barry (Carol) McDermott, Buhl, Idaho; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; stepson, Robert L. McDermott Jr.; two brothers and one sister.
Memorial services were held Aug. 20 at Oakwood Cemetery, Mt. Morris, with burial there.
Finch Funeral Home 405 E. Hitt St., Mt. Morris, assisted the family.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Mt. Morris Public Library.
