Breaking school and state records, Rochelle pole vaulter Andrew Nuyen finished second with a personal-best height of 5.35 meters (17 feet 6 1/2 inches) during the IHSA Class 2A state boys track and field meet at Eastern Illinois. Nuyen is signed to compete at South Florida.

Polo Community High School recently held a signing day for three of its student athletes who will be continuing their careers in college.

Eight Sauk Valley students have qualified for the Youth Equestrian Development Association National Championships, which will be held the first week of June in Lexington, Virginia.

In 1986, Rodger Griffith began umpiring girls softball in Rochelle. He then started umpiring Little League baseball, which he did for over 20 years, before more time behind the plate for high school, travel and fall baseball in the area.

The Rochelle tennis team won the five-team Hub Invite with 22 points. Princeton (15) was second, Mendota (12) third, Dixon (10) and Newman (8) fifth.
