Thomas P. Bolger was born in 1894 and was a graduate of the Northwestern University School of Pharmacy. After serving in WWI, he returned home and worked in a Woodstock pharmacy for several years.
In 1925 he purchased his own store on Green Street in McHenry. He completely remodeled that building only to have a fire, in 1930, do considerable damage. Fire engines from Woodstock helped the McHenry force bring the blaze under control.
In 1936 he opened a store on Main Street in Algonquin, here pictured. It offered drugs, confectionary, cigars and ice cream. This building had a long history of being the location of a pharmacy. Prior to Mr. Bolger’s ownership, it had been the drug store of S.W. Bond, and before that the pharmacy of S.L. Morton.
