Police determined the driver of a Chevrolet Silverado was not at fault for hitting a 15-year-old on a skateboard who died of his injuries.
Plainfield Police Chief John Konopek said the investigation of the Aug. 26 crash at Route 30 and Renwick Road that led to the death of Plainfield resident Tyler Eberly has concluded.
“After interviewing numerous witnesses, it has been determined that the driver of the pickup truck was not at fault for this collision,” Konopek said.
Konopek declined to release the name of the driver since he was not at fault but said he is from Plainfield and he was alone in his vehicle.
The teen was hit about 4:30 p.m., police said. Officers arrived and found Eberly laying in the road near a Chevrolet Silverado, police said.
Paramedics with the Plainfield Fire Protection District took Eberly to AMITA Health Saint Joseph Medical Center in Joliet, police said. Eberly was then airlifted to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.
Eberly died shortly after 9:30 a.m. Aug. 29 at the Oak Lawn hospital, according to Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office spokeswoman Natalia Derevyannay.
The medical examiner’s office ruled Eberly died from multiple injuries after he was struck by a vehicle and that it was an accident.
Police said a preliminary investigation of the crash indicated the Silverado was heading east on Renwick Road and approaching Route 30 when Eberly rode a skateboard between vehicles that were stopped at a traffic signal.
The Silverado hit Eberly in the left turn lane of eastbound Renwick Road at Route 30, police said.
