A person of interest is in custody in connection with the fatal shooting of a man who was walking down a street Tuesday in Lockport Township, police said.
On Wednesday, detectives located and took a person of interest into custody regarding the slaying of Patrick Taylor, 39, of Lockport, according to a Will County Sheriff’s Office news release.
A red Ford conversion van that is suspected of being involved in the crime was also seized by detectives, sheriff officials said.
“The investigation unit worked through the night and located the person of interest and the van in Will County,” sheriff officials said in a news release.
The sheriff’s office thanked the community for assistance in the investigation.
“With help from the community, sheriff’s deputies and detectives were able to gather pertinent leads in their investigation,” sheriff officials said.
Will County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the shooting about 6:35 p.m. Tuesday in the area of Oak Avenue just west of Brassel Street in Lockport Township, according to a Will County Sheriff’s Office news release.

Paramedics with Lockport Township Fire Protection District responded to the deputies’ location and took the victim to a hospital, where he was pronounced deceased, police said.
Deputies canvassed the area and obtained witness statements, police said. Detectives arrived about 10 minutes after the call to conduct interviews and crime scene investigators collected evidence.
The sheriff’s office released a photo of the red van involved in the incident.
The shooting on Tuesday occurred in the Fairmont area of Lockport Township. There were several other shootings in late July in the Fairmont and neighboring Fairview area.
Will County Deputy Chief Dan Jungles said the sheriff’s office has no indication that any of those cases are related to the fatal shooting of Taylor as of Wednesday.
“That however may change, once our investigation progresses, after looking at electronic forensics,” Jungles said.
