A teen driver who was seriously injured in a crash involving a semitrailer that smashed through a backyard fence in New Lenox is expected to recover, police said.
The cause of Wednesday’s crash on East Laraway Road, near Spencer Road, remains under investigation by the New Lenox Police Department.
New Lenox Police Chief Louis Alessandrini said the teen driver of a Ford Fusion was still hospitalized.
“We are being told that he is expected to recover,” Alessandrini said.

The teen was initially taken to Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox before he was airlifted to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood.
An emergency crew with New Lenox Fire Protection District was called to the scene and had to assist in the removal of the teen from the Ford Fusion, Alessandrini said.
The semitrailer crashed through a fence before stopping in a residential backyard off East Laraway Road.
Alessandrini said the driver of the semitrailer tried to “control the truck following the impact and came to rest in the backyard.”

Officers first responded to the crash about 5 a.m. Wednesday.
An accident reconstruction team from the Will County Sheriff’s Office was called to assist the New Lenox police with the investigation, Alessandrini said.
He said the male driver of the semitrailer was not injured and has been cooperative with the police throughout the crash investigation.
