A $250,000 bond was set for a man charged with spitting on a police officer at a Joliet hospital.
On Monday, Judge Dave Carlson found probable cause for the warrantless arrest of Gregory Rideout, 21, of the 400 block of Market Street on a charge of aggravated battery and set his bond at $250,000, court records show.
Rideout will need to post $25,000 for his release from the Will County jail. He has been charged with spitting on a Joliet police officer.
“Our office requested a high bond based on the defendant’s alleged conduct of putting others at medical risk during a pandemic,” said Carole Cheney, spokeswoman for the the Will County State’s Attorney’s office.
Rideout was a patient at AMITA Saint Joseph Medical Center in Joliet, where he was “threatening to harm staff with medical equipment in his room,” Joliet police said.
Officers responded to the scene after receiving a report of an “out of control patient on the eighth floor,” police said.
“While attempting to restrain Rideout, he spit bloody saliva in the face of an officer,” police said.
Rideout was arrested and taken to jail after his release from the hospital.
He was scheduled for a preliminary hearing Tuesday.
