Boys and girls cross country runners take aim at the IHSA State Meet. Dale Johnson leads the way for Sterling, while Prophetstown makes history.

Runners from Dixon, Sterling and Rock Falls advanced to state from the Geneseo and Woodstock cross country sectionals on Saturday.

Under Liz Green, the Erie-Prophetstown cross-country program has always been an environment of caring for one another. That attribute played dividends, as both boys and girls teams advanced to the IHSA state meet.

The Sterling boys cross country team and Dale Johnson won Class 2A Galesburg Regional titles, Polo volleyball took 2nd at the AFC Tournament and the Sterling boys soccer season ended in a regional championship loss to Dunlap. Plus more local results in Saturday's roundup.

The Dixon girls cross country team turned in a dominant performance Saturday at the Big Northern Conference meet, while the boys team also took home the title.
