The Newman boys basketball team bounced back from a double-overtime loss to Erie-Prophetstown on Tuesday by beating Rockridge 53-46 on the road on Wednesday.
Luke Jungerman scored 19 to lead the Comets, pouring in 14 points in the second half. Marcus Williams added 14 points.
The Comets led 13-10 after one quarter, but the Rockets held them scoreless in the second to take a 17-13 lead into halftime. Newman bounced back with a 19-point third quarter but still trailed 40-32 after three before pulling ahead by outscoring the Rockets 21-6 in the fourth.

Dixon 72, Oregon 44: A strong second and third quarter led the Dukes to a win at the Blackhawk Center.
Jacob Gaither scored 22 points, 16 of those in the second. Riley Abell and Drew Roby then took over in the third, scoring six points each in that period. Abell finished with 13, and Roby had nine.
Joey Gelander led the Hawks with 11 points. Owen Ketter added eight.
Oregon led 12-11 after one, but the Dukes scored 30 points in the second quarter to take a 41-30 lead into halftime. Dixon then tacked on 18 points in the third.

Rockford Christian 56, Rock Falls 33: The Rockets fell behind 11-4 after one quarter and 27-78 by halftime in a Big Northern loss in Rockford.
Gavin Sands scored six points to lead Rock Falls (4-8, 3-7), while Ayden Goff, Booker Cross and Logan Young each added five.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Amboy 50, Forreston 21: The top-ranked team in the state in Class 1A picked up another NUIC South win at home.
The Clippers got 14 points and four assists each from Mallory Powers and Abi Payne, with Powers adding six steals and Payne nabbing five. Gabby Jones had eight ponts and six rebounds, Olivia Dinges finished with six points and eight rebounds, and Brianna Blaine had four points and also grabbed eight rebounds. Madelyn McLaughlin pulled down five rebounds and dished four assists for Amboy.
Amboy held the Cardinals to two points in the first quarter, taking a 16-2 lead, then led 33-6 at halftime and 44-12 after three.
Eastland 60, AFC 27: The 1A No. 2 Cougars picked up an NUIC South win in Ashton.
Eastland got scoring from 10 different players, led by Karlie Krogman with 19. The senior post also had 13 rebounds, two steals and an assist. Annika Myre added nine points and four assists. Delana Erbsen had four rebounds and an assist.
Brittney Mundell led the Raiders with 10 points.
Eastland led 23-9 after one quarter and 36-16 at halftime.
Polo 54, Milledgeville 40: The Marcos went on the road and won the Battle of the Blacktop matchup.
Polo broke a 12-12 tie after one quarter with a 19-point second quarter to lead 31-21 at halftime, then led 44-29 after three.
Alex Dusing led a balanced Marcos attack with 13 points. Becca Wagner added 10, Lindee Poper scored nine and Marah Blake added eight.
Adriana Miller led the Missiles with 20 points, getting eight of those in the first quarter and six more in the second. Ali Mertz added 11.
BOYS BOWLING
Geneseo 3,495, Sterling 3,390: The Golden Warriors fell to Western Big 6 rival Geneseo at Blackhawk Lanes.
Carter Schlegel led Sterling with a 646 series, including games of 246, 206 and 194. Ethan Melcher had a 608 series with a 216 game. Andrew Doughty had a 557 series with a 211 game. Tristan Oelrichs had a 201 game on his way to a 547 series.
The Leafs got a 672 series from Sebastian Einfeldt and a 641 from Landen Pruett.
COLLEGE VOLLEYBALL
Sauk Valley def. Carl Sandburg 3-0: The Skyhawks cruised to a straight-sets win at home over their Arrowhead Conference foes, winning 25-19, 25-10, 25-18.
Madison Craft had 19 assists, 11 digs and three aces, and Audra Goff added 18 assists and three aces for Sauk (7-4, 3-0). Emma Carlson smashed 12 kills and Kiley Sanders spiked 11, with Juliana Rotella adding seven kills, and Lexi Greve chipping in six kills and two blocks. Gracey Lovgren finished with three kills and three blocks, and Maddie Sands had 21 digs.
NBA
Roby scored 5 in Thunder loss to Mavs: Dixon native Isaiah Roby played 22 minutes off the bench and finished with five pounts and eight rebounds in Oklahoma City’s 87-78 loss Wednesday night in Dallas.
Roby also had three steals, an assist and a block while shooting 2-for-9 from the field – including 0-for-3 from 3-point range – and 1-for-2 from the free-throw line. The Thunder were outscored 50-38 in the second and third quarters as the Mavericks pulled away despite missing star Luka Doncic to back soreness.
Oklahoma City (14-21) plays again tonight at 8 p.m. in San Antonio, the Thunder’s last game before the All-Star break.
