LOCAL ROUNDUP: Eastland holds off late Amboy rallies

The Eastland baseball team topped Amboy 6-3 on Monday, leaving a total of 10 Amboy runners stranded in the final four innings to hold on for the win.

The Clippers scored a run in the fourth on a Joe Ackert RBI single and loaded the bases before a strikeout ended the inning. Amboy had two on the in fifth before a pop-up ended that inning. Amboy loaded the bases in the sixth with one out before Eastland turned a 4-3 double play. The Clippers had a pair of RBI singles in the seventh and loaded the bases, but back-to-back strikeouts ended the game.

Carson Heckman and Drew Burkholder each had two RBIs for Eastland. Kamden Baber had an RBI double in the sixth and scored on a wild pitch moments later.

Forreston 13, Milledgeville 1, 5 inn.: The Cardinals scored multiple runs in every inning but the fourth, and put up 11 hits in a win over the Missiles.

Ryan Schoonhover homered for Forreston

Treyton Selman drove in a run for Milledgeville.

Kewanee 7, Bureau Valley 3: Payton Dye went 1-for-3 and drove in a pair of runs Monday as the Storm fell in a Three Rivers Conference East Division game in Manlius.

Dye also took the loss on the mound for BV (4-9).

SOFTBALL

Dixon 10, Byron 7: The Duchesses notched their fourth straight win, scoring four runs in the third, two each in the fifth and sixth, and run in both the fourth and seventh for a Big Northern road victory.

Sam Tourtillott had two singles, a home run and three RBIs, and Mallory Coley had a double, homer and three RBIs for Dixon. Arianne Smith drove in two runs and scored twice, Izzi McConmons doubled and drove in a run, and Kierstyn Mays had a pair of doubles.

Tourtillott allowed seven earned runs and eight hits in a complete game, striking out nine and walking four.

Mendota 3, Rock Falls 2: The Rockets scored a run in the top of the second but Mendota answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning and went on to win the BNC game.

Karli Fischbach and Zoe Morgan each had an RBI for the Rockets.

Nicolette Udell pitched four innings and allowed three runs, two earned, on three hits.

Erie-Prophetstown 5, Newman 0: Aylah Jones struck out 16 and held the Comets to two hits, both singles, in a Panthers win.

Emma Davis and Adysson Scott both drove in two runs for EP.

Ady Waldschmidt and Ellie Rude had hits for Newman.

AFC 17, Amboy 3, 6 inn.: The Raiders scored seven runs in the fourth and six in the sixth to down the Clippers via the run rule in an NUIC game in Amboy.

Brittney Mundell had two hits for AFC. Jessica Milligan struck out nine and walked six, allowing just two hits in the victory.

Madelyn McLaughlin and Gabby Jones both singled for Amboy. Mallory Powers took the loss in the circle.

Dakota 10, Eastland 2: The Cougars fell behind early in an NUIC loss, as Dakota scored three runs in the first and added two more in the third.

Chloe Waller and Mia Knebel each had two hits for Eastland.

Riverdale 12, Fulton 0, 5 inn.: The Steamers managed just one hit in a loss to the Rams.

An eight-run second inning broke things open for Riverdale.

Ashlyn Hemm struck out 13 in the circle for Riverdale, walking one and allowing one hit, a double by Faith Ottens.

Kewanee 17, Bureau Valley 0, 5 inn.: Tyra Sayler doubled and took the loss in the circle for the Storm in a Three Rivers Conference East Division game in Manlius.

BOYS TENNIS

Guilford 3, Dixon 2: The Dukes dropped a nonconference match in Rockford, sweeping the singles matches.

Lucas Healy won 6-4, ret. at No. 1, while Landon Juckel won 6-2, 7-6 (4) at No. 2. Leith Elbzour and Logan Moeller dropped a tough one at No. 1 doubles, falling 10-6 in the third-set tiebreaker.
