The Oregon softball team rolled to win No. 2 on the season, defeating Hiawatha 10-0 in five innings on Thursday at Oregon Park West.
Mia Trampel struck out 11 without a walk in a two-hitter for the Hawks (2-0), throwing 45 of her 61 pitches for strikes.
Reilee Suter was 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles, four RBIs, and two runs scored to lead the offense, and Jesse Suter had two hits, a run and three RBIs. Ella Dannhorn was 3-for-3 with two runs and an RBI, and Gracen Pitts had two hits, drove in a run and also scored once. Liz Mois had an RBI and scored a run, and Bella Koertner, Lena Trampel and Ava Hackman also scored for Oregon.
Bureau Valley 17, Amboy 0, 3 inn.: The Storm scored three runs in the first inning, nine in the second, and five in the third to win a nonconference game on the road.
Lesleigh Maynard finished a triple shy of the cycle, ripping a single, double and home run, and driving in six runs for BV. Tyra Sayler tossed a one-hitter, striking out three and walking one.
Tyrah Vaessen had the lone hit for the Clippers (0-2), and Baylie Nickel took the loss in the circle.
Annawan 11, Fulton 0, 5 inn.: Annawan scored six first-inning runs and capitalized on nine Fulton errors to win at Drive’s Park.
Madyson Luskey and Amy Hughes each went 1-for-2 to lead the Steamers at the plate.
Brooklyn Brennan pitched a complete game for Fulton, allowing five earned runs, while striking out four and walking two.
Earlville 16, AFC 0, 4 inn.: The Raiders managed just one baserunner in a nonconference loss in Ashton, as Earlville scored five runs in the first, two in the second, four in the third and five more in the fourth.
Orangeville 10, Eastland 0, 5 inn.: The Broncos scored seven runs in the second inning runs on the way to an NUIC crossover win over the visiting Cougars.
Gracie Steidinger went 2-for-3 to lead Eastland at the plate. Jenica Stoner took the loss in the circle.
Meghan Carlisle drove in three runs to lead Orangeville.
Forreston 7, Warren-Stockton 4: The Cardinals rallied from a 3-2 third-inning deficit with a four-run fourth inning to win an NUIC crossover contest at home.
Hailey Greenfield went 3-for-4, Nevaeh Houston and Jenna Greenfield each went 2-for-4 with one RBI, and Alaina Miller went 2-for-2 to lead Forreston at the plate. Rylee Broshous hit a triple for the Cardinals.
Miller got the complete-game win, allowing four runs on seven hits, while walking two and striking out seven.
Baseball
AFC 12, Earlville 0, 5 inn.: Three Raiders pitchers combined on a one-hitter in a season-opening win in Ashton.
Jordan Harris, Carson Rueff and Griffin Bushman combined to strike out seven and walk five, and they got plenty of offensive support as AFC (1-0) pounded out 12 hits.
Auden Polk went 2-for-3 with four RBIs, Braiden Runkle was 2-for-2 with three runs scored, and Bushman and Dylan Gonnerman both drove in a pair of runs for the Raiders, who grabbed a 6-0 lead in the first inning, tacked on two more in the second, and added four runs in the third. Evan Kopp and Michael Cochrane each added an RBI, and Kopp scored twice, as did Mason Munroe.
Bureau Valley 12, Amboy 2, 5 inn.: The Storm scored in every inning of a nonconference game at City Park in Amboy.
Carter Salisbury had three RBIs and scored three runs, and Sam Wright also drove in three runs and scored twice for BV, which got runs or RBIs from eight different spots in the lineup. Adam Johnson and Layton Britt also scored two runs each, and Sam Rouse added an RBI.
Sam Russell and Tucker Lindenmeyer each had two hits, and Russell had the Clippers’ RBI. Jackson Rogers took the loss on the mound.
Fulton 13, Annawan-Wethersfield 9: The Steamers took control of a nonconference home game with a seven-run third inning, then held off a late charge from the Titans.
Drew Dykstra had three hits, including a triple, to go with two RBIs and three runs scored for Fulton, which scored three times in the first inning, then tacked on three more runs in the fifth. Jacob Jones had two hits and three RBIs, Brock Mason singled, homered, drove in two runs and scored twice, and Ryan Eads also had a pair of RBIs for the Steamers. Ian Wiebenga had two hits and drove in a run, and Ethan Price added an RBI as 10 different Steamers scored runs.
Mason started on the mound and got the win, allowing three runs (two earned) and four hits in four innings, striking out eight and walking one.
Forreston 11, Aquin 1, 6 inn.: The Cardinals used a six-run sixth inning secure a run-rule win over the visiting Bulldogs.
Tommy Appel went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and scored two runs, Jacob Fiorello also went 2-for-4 and scored three runs, Noah Johnson tallied two RBIs, Alex Riya had two hits for Forreston.
Riya earned the win on the mound, allowing two hits, one run and three walks while striking out four over three innings.
Boys tennis
Dixon 6, LaSalle-Peru 1: The Dukes opened their season with a nonconference win on the road.
Lucas Healy was a 6-0, 6-0 winner at No. 1 singles, and Bashar Elbzour won 6-3, 6-4 at No. 2 singles for Dixon, which swept the doubles matches.
Owen Grot and Leith Elbzour won 7-5, 7-6 (5) at No. 1 doubles, while Grant Boss and Kaiser Khawaja won 6-1, 7-5 at No. 2. Alex Ullrich and Owen Winters were 1-6, 6-3, 10-7 winners at No. 3, and Zechariah Fazekas and Damien Beck won 6-2, 6-2 at No. 4 doubles.
