2nd man accused in theft of Alfa Romeo from Crystal Lake dealership after shattering showroom window

Another warrant issued for other accused man for failing to appear in court, officials say

Daquan T. Anderson

An 18-year-old Chicago man was in custody last week and charged in the theft of an Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio from a Crystal Lake dealership last year.

Daquan T. Anderson is charged with burglary, possession of a stolen vehicle and theft of property worth $10,000 to $100,000, according to official records in McHenry County.

According to a criminal complaint, Anderson broke into the Martin Chevrolet car dealership in Crystal Lake and stole a gray 2022 Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio on Feb. 19, 2024, a day before his 18th birthday.

A warrant for Anderson’s arrest was issued in May and served Wednesday, according to court records. Anderson was released on pretrial conditions in an initial jail hearing before Judge Cynthia Lamb on Jan. 30 after a petition to deny his release was filed by Assistant State’s Attorney Anthony Marin.

Anderson is charged in the theft along with Talen O. McChristion, 22, of Chicago, court records show. McChristion, who was charged in April, was arrested and released from the McHenry County Jail pretrial after an April 25 hearing, records show. Another warrant was issued against McChristion for failing to appear in court Jan. 17, according to court records.

The pair are accused of “shattering a glass showroom window to enter” Martin Chevrolet at 4:15 a.m. Feb. 19, 2024, in Crystal Lake. They “knowingly obtained unauthorized control” over the vehicle, according to the complaints. Prosecutors have said that the theft of the Alfa Romeo was captured on video.

A 2022 Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio costs about $60,000, according to Carfax. Newer models are listed in the Chicago area at costs of about $90,000 or more. The 2024 model is advertised as the “fastest SUV available in the U.S.”

At McChristion’s detention hearing, Assistant State’s Attorney Julio Cantre said information leading to his arrest included cell tower pings and a cellphone found in a cup holder of the Alfa Romeo that contained Google searches of various dealerships and vehicles, including Kia Stingers and Alfa Romeos.

Cantre said McChristion is suspected in other thefts at dealerships in Bartlett, Barrington and East Dundee. Those suspected in the thefts arrived at the Crystal Lake dealership in a Kia and left in the Alfa Romeo, Cantre said.

Anderson is next scheduled to appear in court Feb. 27.
