Seneca sophomore Raiden Terry is the Times 2024-25 Boys Wrestler of the Year after finishing third at 106 pounds at Class 1A state, while compiling 52 wins and 24 technical falls, both school records.

Dozens of youth wrestlers from around the Ottawa/Streator/Morris area who had qualified in the previous weeks competed in a pair of Illinois' youth wrestling state tournaments this past weekend.

A multitude of the area's young wrestlers have advanced to various youth wrestling state tournaments being held in both Peoria and DeKalb this weekend.

Marian Central Catholic won nine straight bouts and scored 43 consecutive points Tuesday on the way to a 66-6 victory over Sandwich in the Class 1A Oregon Dual Sectional.

The boys individual wrestling season comes to a close with titles bouts Saturday, Feb. 22, 2025, at State Farm Center in Champaign.

The Coal City wrestling team hosted sectionals over the weekend and had 13 wrestlers advance to state, seven with first-place finishes. Reed-Custer advanced five and Wilmington and Seneca three.

The Coal City boys wrestling team won the Herscher Regional with all 14 wrestlers finishing in the top three of their weight class. Seneca is sending six to sectionals.

While Yorkville Christian dominated the Kaneland Class 2A Individual Wrestling Regional Saturday to win its fourth in a row team title, the other tournament schools will be well represented at next week’s Washington Class 2A Sectional.
