OTTAWA - Thirteen victories against just one loss.
The Ottawa Pirates softball team bagged two more wins Saturday in a three-team round robin, first defeating Mendota 7-2 and then handling Coal City 4-1 at King Field.
McKenzie Oslanzi (7 IP, 0 ER, 10 K) pitched a one-hitter against Mendota, backed by an offense that scored in the first three innings led by the bats of Lauren Carlson (three singles, two RBIs), Zoe Harris (4-for-4 with a double, one RBI), Abi Claus (two singles), Kendall Eslinger (single, double, RBI) and Emma Haage (triple, RBI).
The Pirates then completed the day with the afternooncap win pitched by Abby Bukantis (7 IP, 1 ER, 12 K), a two-hitter. Again it was early runs propelling the way to victory, paced by RBIs courtesy of Haage (double), Ryleigh Stehl, Carlson and Eslinger (two singles). Harris had a single and a double.
Marquette 1, Serena 0; Marquette 9, Serena 8: At Serena, the visiting Crusaders (4-1) scored the twin-bill sweep in a pair of close ballgames with the Huskers (6-4).
In the opener, Kaylee Killelea (7 IP, 0 R, 9 K) allowed just three hits in outdueling Taylor Staton (7 IP, 1 ER, 4 K). Lindsey Kaufmann drove home Addie McConnaughhay — who had two hits, a single and a double — with the game’s lone run in the top of the third. Izzy Garkey added a triple.
Marquette scored five in the top of the first and Serena four in the bottom half of the afternooncap, which saw the Huskers chasing all game despite the batwork of Makenzie Manke (three hits, four RBIs), Staton (three hits, RBI), Odell (three hits, RBI) and Katie Baker (two hits). McConnaughhay (two RBIs), Eva McCallum (RBI) and Killelea (RBI) provided three hits apiece for the Crus, with Garkey and Miah Ferracuti (two hits) driving home two runs apiece.
Lindsey Kaufmann (7 IP, 8 ER, 3 K) earned the pitching win, with Emma Holdiman (1 IP, 5 ER, 0 K) suffering the loss.
Seneca 12, Reed-Custer 1 (5 inn.): At Braidwood, the Fighting Irish received a three-hit, four-RBI performance at the plate from Zoe Hougas and the pitching win from Maggie Carpenter.
Maddie Klicker contributed three hits and four runs scored, with Carpenter, Taya Roe and Madi Mino tapping two hits apiece.
Baseball
Reed-Custer 9, Seneca 2: At Seneca, the Fighting Irish (7-1) fell to their former Interstate Eight Conference rivals for their first loss of the season, a six-run Comets sixth the main culprit.
Matt Cruise (5 IP, 4 ER, 7 K) was dealt the pitching loss. Tyler Sulzberger provided two of Seneca’s three hits and drove in both Fighting Irish runs.
Plano 7, Somonauk 6: At Plano, the visiting Bobcats received a two-hit, three-RBI game from Kevin Serio, two-hit performances from Nick Baltierrez, Emanuel Marin (triple) and three hits courtesy of Mason Accidentale.
Carter Andrews (2 1.3 IP, 2 ER, 1 K) suffered the pitching loss in relief of Coleton Eade (3 2.3 IP, 3 ER, 3 K).
ACC 7, Sandwich 3; ACC 17, Sandwich 7 (5 inn.): At Aurora, Hunter Pavia (5 IP, 3 ER, 5 K) and Gabe Prado (2/3 IP, 6 ER, 1 K) suffered the pitching losses for the Indians (1-8).
Prado and Sam Palumbo provided a hit and RBI apiece in the opener, while in the second dip Prado with two RBIs, Chris Barbor with a double and two RBIs, Everett Ford with two hits and Andrew Golinski with a hit and RBI led Sandwich.
Girls soccer
Ottawa 6, IVC 2: At Chillicothe, Gabi Krueger put in four goals for the visiting Pirates in the non-conference victory.
Krueger also added a pair of assists on goals scored by Nastya Sheptenko and Lexi Boe.
Wrestling
Sandwich 36, Prairie Central 36; Yorkville 48, Sandwich 21: In a triangular, Sandwich received two wins on the day from both Evan Reilly at 132 (two pinfalls) and Aidan Linden at 152 (forfeit, 8-4 dec.).
Boys track and field
Sandwich 2nd at Antioch Invite: At the Antioch Invitational, Sandwich (164) was a close runner-up to event champion Antioch (175) in an eight-tem field.
Firsts for the Indians included Jayden Green (1.87 meters in high jump, 6.39 in long jump, 14.45 in triple jump), Michael Marrs (22.31 seconds in 200; a school record :10.84 in 100) and the 400 (:44.23) and 800 (1:35.34) relay teams.
