Girls Basketball: Benet’s Lenee Beaumont named AP Second Team All-State

Benet junior guard Lenee Beaumont has been named to the Associated Press Class 4A All-State Second Team in voting by a statewide panel of sports writers, broadcasters and internet-site reporters. Beaumont this week led the Redwings to the Class 4A state tournament, where they will play Stevenson on Friday at Redbird Arena in a state semifinal. On the season Beaumont is averaging 15.0 points, 4.7 rebounds and 4.0 assists and has hit 76 3-pointers.

A five-player first team and five-player second team were selected in each class.

The Class 4A First Team is Barrington junior guard Sophie Swanson, Hersey junior guard Katy Eidle, Naperville North senior guard Mackenzie Hare, Edwardsville senior guard Sydney Harris and Kenwood junior guard Brianna McDaniel. Named to the Class 4A Second Team were Beaumont, Libertyville junior Emily Fisher, Homewood-Flossmoor junior Alyssa Latham, Witney Young junior Skylar Jones and Joliet West junior Lisa Thompson.

Wheaton North senior guard Claire Hyde, Benet senior center Morgan Demos and Lyons senior Izzy Lee were area players who received honorable mention.

The Class 3A First Team was made up of Morton senior Katie Krupa, Mattoon senior Mallory Ramage, Lincoln sophomore Kloe Froebe, Geneseo senior Kammie Ludwig and Oak Forest junior Janae Kent. The Class 3A Second Team was made up of Carmel junior Jordan Wood, St. Viator senior Joy Bergstrom, Burlington Central senior Taylor Charles, Peoria junior Denali Craig-Edwards and Sycamore senior Faith Feuerbach.

Area players receiving honorable mention in Class 3A included Nazareth junior Grace Carstensen, Nazareth sophomore Amalia Dray and Montini junior Shannon Blacher.

IC Catholic senior Claire Wagner received honorable mention in Class 2A.
