Newark senior Megan Williams overcame a serious health scare to win two individual state championships last month and lead the Norsemen to second place in Class 1A. She is the Record Newspapers Girls Track and Field Athlete of the Year.
Megan Williams soared to Newark's first state titles in girls track, winning both the long jump and the triple jump, and teammate Kiara Wesseh took second in the high jump and third in the 100 to lead Newark to second as a team and its first state trophy.
Sandwich's Claire Allen is in first place in the Class 2A discus after Friday's preliminaries at the state track meet in Charleston, while Yorkville freshman Courtney Clabough is in third place in Class 3A discus and fourth in shot put with a school record throw.
