High school sports roundup for Saturday, Feb. 6: Yorkville Christian wrestling wins regional title, qualifies nine for sectionals

Yorkville Christian

The Mustangs went 7-for-7 in championship matches and also had two third-place finishes for nine sectional qualifiers, beating fellow state-ranked Coal City 200-175 to win the Class 1A Seneca Regional title.

Yorkville Christian came in seventh-ranked by IWOCA, Coal City third-ranked.

Yorkville regional champs included Aiden Larsen (106 pounds), Isaac Bourge (120), Grayson Johnson (126), Noah Dial (132), Tyler Martinez (160), Jackson Gillen (170) and Michael Esquivel (285). Braulio Flores (138) and Drew Torza (152).

BOYS SWIMMING

Southwest Prairie Conference meet

Oswego Co-Op scored 251 points to take second to Plainfield (275) at the Southwest Prairie Conference meet. Oswego wins included Tanner Stumpenhorst in the 100 butterfly (52.61) and the 400 freestyle relay team of Chase Meier, Jake Bolda, Ryan Lipnick and Stumpenhorst (3:22.70). Meier was second in the 50 free, Mikey Weizeorick second in the 500 free and the 200 freestyle relay of Meier, Lipnick, Alex Pierce and Stumpenhorst was second as was the 400 freestyle relay.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Amboy 43, Newark 38

KJ Friestad scored 10 points, Emily DiClementi had nine points and four steals and Lindsey Hatteberg had six rebounds and four steals for Newark (16-8).

Parkview Christian 46, Christian Liberty 35

Sophomore Gracie Lambes scored 24 points and junior Liz Griswold added 14 points and 15 rebounds as the Falcons (17-0) won the Illinois Christian Conference tournament title. Emily Howard added eight points and eight boards.

KJ Vasser scored 21 points and Jaden Schutt added 14 for the Mustangs.
