Why grow up when you can fly? Follow the adventures of three orphan boys dodging their fate, and one wise girl as they set sail on the high seas. Their mission is not so simple, but it’s oh so exciting: protect the magical star stuff at all costs! Join us on this wild and whimsical journey to Neverland and dare to dream about mermaids, life as a pirate, and never growing up. Courage is tested as friendships grow, beginning one dashing boy’s transformation into the legendary Peter Pan.
Director Nate Cohen is thrilled to bring his vision of Peter and companions to the stage in Aurora. “One of the great things about this show is it really pushes back against the concept of the audience as a passive observer of the play,” he said. “There is no fourth wall, and the event of the play is about how the world is built and crafted, and asks the audience to expand their ideas of what is possible in a theatre. A mop becomes a cat, a pair of shoes becomes a crocodile, sailors become mermaids. While some of that is done through really cool theatre magic, most of it is done through the magic and imagination the audience brings with them. It’s exactly the kind of show you want to do in a theatre like the Copley Theatre.”
Peter and the Starcatcher will be playing at Copley Theatre through Sept.1 with an American Sign Language-interpreted show offered on Friday, August 30 at 8:00 p.m.
