St. Charles Park District: Friday Live offers children & adults a night out

Friday Live is back!

After being on hold for 18 months because of COVID-19 restrictions, Pottawatomie Community Center once again will open its doors to offer a night out for children to dance, create, play games and hang with friends.

The first Friday Live is set for Sept. 24.

From 6:30 to 10 p.m. on select Fridays, the popular program provides an opportunity for children to engage in activities such as dancing, playing basketball, football and other sports, making crafts or coloring, posing in a photo booth and playing video games. Concessions are available.

Friday Live is for children in grades 3 to 6 who attend St. Charles School District 303. The fee is $10 a child each Friday. Season passes are available, plus discounts for siblings.

For families who want to start their night even earlier, the park district offers the Pre-Friday Live event Gymtime Fun from 5 to 6:15 p.m. for an extra $5. During this time, your child will engage in group gym activities from knock-out to capture the flag. A discount is given to children who attend both events.

“We are excited to offer this popular program once again to children in our community,” said Alex Weidner, recreation supervisor. “We have several fun themes planned and a variety of activities for all interests. There will be no shortage of fun.”

Besides the multiple ways that Friday Live keeps your child entertained, the program provides great opportunities for socialization.

“Kids are always meeting other kids their age and making new friends. The program really broadens their experience with others,” Weidner said.

While the children are entertained, parents can enjoy a night out – or night in.

“Parents can feel at ease that their children are in a safe, supervised and fun environment. They can relax and slow down and enjoy time with each other and friends,” Weidner said.

As in previous years, each Friday will have a theme. The Sept. 24 theme is Test Drive, providing car themed games, activities and decorations. Other themes this fall are Superhero, Glow Night, Under the Sea and Halloween.

Friday Live is staffed and supervised by park district employees. While registration at www.stcparks.org/friday-live is encouraged, the event does take walk-ins. Parents must accompany children at check-in and check-out. Masks are required.
