St. Charles Park District: Indoor play option for rainy & cold days

Rain and cool temps don’t have to mean staying cooped at home with toddlers. The St. Charles Park District has some great play options to let young ones use their energy.

New this year is the Itsy Bitsy Playtime offered at Sportsplex on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10-11:30 a.m. Children and their caregivers can enjoy the facility’s multi-purpose room with access to play items including hula hoops, sports balls and the imagination playground with large foam building blocks, perfect for building a fort or towers, said Cayla Greenfield, Sportsplex supervisor.

“It’s a great space to let little ones run around indoors,” Greenfield said. “This is perfect for playgroups, mom groups and families.”

The new morning times are ideal for families trying to enjoy some toddler playtime before lunch or while older siblings are in classes. Itsy Bitsy Playtime is open to residents as well as non-residents, and small playgroups are welcome, Greenfield said.

“It’s a big room with plenty of space to explore and play,” Greenfield said.

The cost is $2 per person and advance reservations are required using the Sportsplex web page on the park district’s website. Itsy Bitsy Playtime will run from Sept. 14 to Nov. 11.

Turf Time at Sportsplex is another great way for children to run and play indoors this fall. Families or playgroups can rent a half or full indoor turf field for an hour with plenty of room for an indoor game of soccer, tag or other indoor games.

Turf Time rentals are available for toddler times as well as older children. Advance reservations are required and fees are available for resident and non-resident rates.

“We have lots of space and plenty of options,” Greenfield said.

Pottawatomie Community Center has Drop-In Sports Play and Toddler Time at the Conner Gymnasium for children and their caregivers. Daily admission is $3 or purchase a 10-visit pass for $25.

These facilities are a great way for young children to run, jump, use the sit n’rides or play ball indoors even as the weather becomes wet and chilly. Advance reservations are required and can be made stcsportsplex.org/playtime or call the facility at 630-513-4388.
