Geneva Christmas Walk returns to kick off holiday season

GENEVA – The Geneva Christmas Walk is back this year, and will feature the first candy cane of the season, carolers and other festive offerings to ring in the holidays.

The event begins at 6 p.m. Dec. 3 on Third Street.

The Geneva Chamber of Commerce presents the Christmas Walk, with support from the city of Geneva through street closures and police presence.

The first candy cane, made by Graham’s Fine Chocolates & Ice Cream, will be presented to Mayor Kevin Burns with Bob’s Candy Cane Parade – named for the late Bob Untiedt, Graham’s founder.

A drum-and-bugle-led parade with more than 100 bell ringers will present the first candy cane of the season, the release stated.

The Swedish symbol of the season, Santa Lucia, will arrive and offer Swedish cookies, followed by the lighting of the tree on the courthouse lawn.

Santa will arrive atop the Geneva History Museum and will visit with children at the Geneva Visitor Center, 10 S. Third St., starting Nov. 1 by reservation at genevachamber.com. Santa will see visitors each weekend Dec. 3-5, Dec. 11-12 and Dec. 18-19.

Other holiday amenities include the lights and greenery lining the streets, chestnuts roasted over open fires, carolers, a traditional candy cane pull and a live nativity scene is taking place.

The chamber is also offering its traditional Holiday House Tour featuring five Geneva homes, decorated for the season by local decorators.

The homes are located at 1900 Kaneville Road, 1088 Dunstan Road, 829 Cheever Avenue, 528 Campbell Street and 1110 Union Street.

The houses will be open to visitors for self-guided tours from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Dec. 3 and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dec. 4.

Tickets are $35 per person and include a traditional holiday tea and a special treat from The Olive Mill or 360° Flavor & Spice. Proceeds are used to decorate Geneva for the holiday season.

Tickets are available by calling 630-232-6060 or online at genevachamber.com.

The Christmas Walk and House Tour are sponsored by Little Barn Baby.
