Sugar Grove mourns loss of longtime former trustee Kevin Geary

A memorial fund has been created to honor longtime former Sugar Grove Village Trustee Kevin Geary, who passed away Oct. 6 in Alabama.

According to a news release, all funds donated to the “Kevin Geary Memorial Fund” will go to his wife, Laurie Geary.

In addition to his wife, Geary is survived by his son Michael (Crystal), four grandchildren and two sisters. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother. Geary was known as a generous hearted and civic-minded individual, serving tirelessly for causes that benefitted his community, the release stated.

According to the news release, Geary became a resident of Sugar Grove in 1996, and was first elected to the Sugar Grove Village Board in 1999, serving for 18 years through 2017.

In addition to his service on the Village Board, Geary served for many years as a member and supporter of the Sugar Grove Chamber, the Sugar Grove Lions Club, the Inc. Board, NFP Board of Directors - a Community Mental Health Funding Alliance, and was an ardent supporter of the Sugar Grove Corn Boil. He championed causes he believed in, freely sharing his ideas and energy, the release stated.
