Driver killed in head-on crash with Batavia school bus

The 2007 Infinity 2-door coupe was going southbound on Hart Road at the time of the crash

The driver of a 2007 Infinity was killed Tuesday afternoon after being involved in a head-on crash with a school bus that had just left Rotolo Middle School in Batavia.

The name of the driver is not being released until family members are notified. Several minor injuries were reported by passengers on the bus, according to a news release from the Batavia Police Department.

Thirty-eight students were released without further treatment, the release stated. One student passenger reporting minor injuries was transported to an area hospital by Batavia medics.

The school bus driver was not injured, according to the release. A full-size International Navistar school bus carrying 39 middle school age students had left Rotolo Middle School at 3:13 p.m. and was northbound on Hart Road to take students home from school, the release stated.

The 2007 Infinity 2-door coupe was going southbound on Hart Road at the time of the crash. The driver was killed at the scene.

No additional information related to the crash investigation is being released at this time as the investigation continues. The Batavia Police Department is being assisted in the investigation by the Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team.

The roadway was cleared and reopened to traffic at 6:57 p.m.
