Woman charged with DUI after hitting traffic light pole in Geneva

Witness: Driver swerved to avoid hitting another car

GENEVA – A Plato Township woman was charged with driving under the influence after hit a the traffic light pole, according to Geneva police reports.

Beth A. Laubach, 63, of the 41W100 block of Creekview Drive, Plato Township, was also charged June 9 with failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

Police were called to the 3400 block of Keslinger Road at 9:30 p.m. in response to a crash report of a brown 2013 Lexus 450H, records show.

A witness told police she was stopped at the red light in the through lane of traffic on Keslinger Road at Peck Road when she observed a vehicle coming up behind her at a high rate of speed, the report stated.

“The witness saw the vehicle swerve at the last second to avoid a collision with her,” the report stated. “The witness saw the vehicle hit the stop light pole.”

When police arrived, a nurse was providing medical assistance to Laubach, who was sitting upright on the median, the report stated.

“I also observed a large pile of vomit sitting next to Laubach,” the report stated. “Laubach kept saying she was sorry and that she drank too much.”

Bond and court information about Laubach’s charges were not available.
