Elgin Mental Health Center patient charged with attempted murder for beating nurse

Nurse remains hospitalized with life-threatening injuries

A patient at the Elgin Mental Health Center has been charged with one count of attempted murder and two counts of felony aggravated battery after he allegedly attacked a nurse on July 17.

According to a news release from Kane County State’s Attorney Jamie Mosser’s office, Travis Turner, 18, attacked a nurse at Elgin Mental Health Center, punched her in the face and head and knocked her to the floor, causing life-threatening injuries to her face, skull and upper body.

The nurse remains hospitalized.

Kane County Judge Julia Yetter set Turner’s bail at $500,000, with 10 percent ($50,000) to apply for bond, the release stated.

Turner’s next court appearance is Aug. 11.
