North Aurora man charged in connection with shooting in Woodman’s parking lot

NORTH AURORA – A North Aurora man has been charged with multiple felonies in connection with a shooting at Woodman’s parking lot June 1 that left two men injured.

According to a news release from the North Aurora Police Department, David M. Williams, 19, of the 1800 block of Oak Street, was charged Friday with aggravated battery with a firearm, four counts of armed robbery and two counts of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon.

The release states that Williams allegedly arranged a meeting in the Woodman’s parking lot just before 5:30 p.m. with one of the shooting victims to buy marijuana. Williams and a second man approached the victim’s car and got in. Once the car was parked, Williams displayed a handgun and demanded the marijuana. One of the victims and Williams began struggling over the gun when the second man was shot in the leg in the back seat. He got out of the car and limped away. The car rolled forward as Williams and the victim continued to struggle before the victim was shot in the neck.

Williams got out of the car when it came to a stop and briefly tried to help the second man who was shot in the leg before fleeing northbound through a field, the release stated.

A good samaritan placed a tourniquet on the second man’s leg before he was taken to an area hospital. The other victim, a 17-year-old male, was taken to an area hospital in critical condition.

Police found Williams in an apartment in the 1800 block of Oak Street, where he, a third man and a woman were taken into custody. The third man and woman were released, while Williams has remained in police custody.
