ST. CHARLES TOWNSHIP – A grand jury indicted an employee at the Illinois Youth Center-St. Charles today on charges that she had sex with a teen resident at the center, according to a news release from the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office.
The charges against Antoinette Perkins, 33, of Chicago, are custodial sexual misconduct and official misconduct, both Class 3 felonies, according to the release.
The charges are punishable by two to five years in prison and fines up to $25,000, if convicted.
Kane County prosecutors alleged that in October 2020, Perkins engaged in sexual conduct with a resident at Illinois Youth Center-St. Charles, 3825 Campton Hills Road, St. Charles.
Perkins was an IYC juvenile justice specialist at the time. She resigned from the Illinois Department of Corrections in November 2020.
A judge issued a warrant for Perkins’ arrest and set her bond at $25,000 with 10 percent or $2,500 required as bail in order for her to be released.
Perkins appeared today via remote access in front of Kane County Associate Judge Salvatore LoPiccolo.
LoPiccolo granted Perkins’ request to reduce bond and allowed her to remain free on her promise to appear in court and follow conditions of bond, which include that she is to have no contact with the victim, the release stated.
LoPiccolo ordered Perkins to surrender to the Kane County Sheriff’s Office by April 9 for booking and set her next court appearance forMay 7.
The Illinois Department of Corrections investigated the case, the release stated.
IYC-St. Charles has an average daily population of 138 of juvenile males with an average age of 17, according to its website, www2.illinois.gov.
