Geneva public works crews restore power to 871 customers

Faulty underground cable blamed for power outage

GENEVA – Geneva Public Works crews restored power to 871 customers impacted by an hour-long outage this afternoon in 92-degree heat, officials announced in an emergency bulletin.

The outage was caused by a faulty underground cable. Crews found the bad section of cable, isolated the problem and will be back Monday to complete the repair, which is not expected to disrupt service.

The outage started at 3:28 p.m. and extended from Geneva Drive to Division Street and from East Side Drive to Kirk Road. The Kirkwood subdivision also has lost service.

Crews restored service to about 170 customers as of 3:45 p.m. and fully restored by 4:30 p.m. to the remaining 700 customers.
