Matt Vatev won the penultimate event, the 100 breaststroke, then anchored Hinsdale Central's record-setting 400 freestyle relay to bring home the Red Devils' fourth straight state championship. Marmion was second for the second straight year.

Sycamore junior Ema Durst won the first girls wrestling title in school history and just the third overall wrestling title for the Spartans. Kaneland's Angelina Gochis also won a championship. DeKalb's Larisza Gomez-Guevara and Alex Gregorio-Perez also won medals.

St. Francis led Joliet Catholic by 15 with two minutes left in the third only for the Hilltoppers to get back within three in the final period. The Spartans ultimately held on 58-54 to make the sectional semis.
David Showman put up 33 points, leading fifth-seeded Wheaton Warrenville South to a win over Batavia and a regional championship Friday.

Kaneland's Marshawn Cocroft attacked the basket early and often, scoring 30 points to lead the Knights to a 70-52 championship victory over the hosts in the Class 3A Burlington Central Regional title game.

Defending state champion Benet rolled out to a dominant 24-point halftime lead and went on to beat regional host West Aurora 67-25 in Friday's Class 4A West Aurora Regional final.
