West Chicago, which co-ops with Batavia and Geneva, scored 275 points to win Saturday’s St. Charles North Sectional. The host North Stars were second with 256 points. It was the first sectional championship for West Chicago since 1992.

Caroline Kramer and Kit Schneider won individual championships in the 50 freestyle and 100 breastroke to lead Hinsdale Central to second at state, while St. Charles North won the meet-ending 400 freestyle relay to get third. Oswego Co-op's Katie Gresik was second in the 500 free.

St. Charles North won seven of the 11 events and advanced all three relay teams and five swimmers to next week’s state meet, winning its fourth consecutive sectional title.

Kaneland’s Leah Hayes showed the state why her future in girls swimming is so bright, everyone is going to have to wear shades. Hayes easily won titles in both of her events at Saturday’s IHSA girls swimming and diving state championships at the brand-new FMC Natatorium in Westmont.
