Big jump in new COVID cases in Kane County Tuesday

Six additional COVID deaths reported

Illinois public officials on Tuesday reported 313 new cases of COVID-19 in Kane County and six new deaths, one woman in her 60s, one man in his 70s, two women in their 80s, one man in his 80s and one man in his 90s. The new case total is an increase from the 176 new cases reported on Monday.

Kane County has now seen 44,579 total cases of the virus and 615 people have died.

The West Suburban region (DuPage and Kane counties) has seen 11 consecutive days under 12%. The region’s positivity rate stayed flat at 10.4%. Currently, 25.0% of medical/surgical beds are available and 24.1% of ICU beds.

The region has 11 consecutive days over the 20% threshold for ICU bed availability, and two consecutive days over the 20% threshold for medical/surgical bed availability.

Within this region, Kane County’s seven-day positivity average is at 12.3%, and DuPage County is at 9.5%.

Hospitalizations have decreased nine out of the past 10 days in this region.

Finally, within the DuPage/Kane region, there are 81 available, staffed ICU beds out of 324 total and 363 ventilators available out of 581.

The positivity rate is the percentage of people who test positive out of all the people tested in a given time period. Additional restrictions can be placed on any of the state’s 11 health regions if the region sustains an increase in its average positivity rate for seven days out of a 10-day period.

The Illinois Department of Public Health reported 6,642 new confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 and 117 additional deaths Tuesday. The IDPH received the results of 93,491 tests leading up to Tuesday afternoon.

According to the IDPH, the rolling seven-day positivity rate average in the state is 7.5%.

Illinois now has seen 1,040,168 total cases of the virus, and 17,743 people have died.
