LNT Mendota-ACC girls soccer

A look at the girls soccer regionals involving NewsTribune-area teams.

Sterling senior Delia Block came through in her final home game, scoring a hat trick in a 3-1 win over Streator to open the postseason.

The Hinckley-Big Rock/Somonauk/Leland and Serena/Newark/Earlville co-op girls soccer teams each played solid throughout Thursday 2-2 tie in a match held at Serena High School.

The Illinois Valley's girls soccer clubs – La Salle-Peru, Ottawa, Streator, DePue-Hall, Mendota, Princeton and the Serena and HBR co-ops – have learned their postseason paths, with regionals opening May 15.

The 2-2 final score Thursday will go down as a tie. For a first-year Serena/Newark/Earlville girls soccer program and a rebuilding Streator program with half its varsity roster spots filled with underclassmen, it felt like a win.

Keighley Davis scored two goals as Princeton improved to 9-0 with a 2-1 victory over Mendota on Tuesday.

Chloe Carmona with four goals, Georgia Kirkpatrick with three assists and Shaelyn Miller with a shutout led a a strong team effort as Ottawa's girls soccer club topped rival La Salle-Peru 6-0 on Monday.

The Ottawa girls soccer team scored three times - two by Chloe Carmona - in the final seven minutes in a 5-1 victory over Morris in Wednesday's Interstate 8 Conference match in Morris.
