Milledgeville tops Forreston in overtime; Oregon, West Carroll fall in openers

Milledgeville rallied for a 14-12 win over Forreston in overtime on Saturday in the season opener for the Cardinals and the first win of the season for the Missiles.

Nick Smith found Gage Wilk for a 10-yard touchdown in the Missiles’ half over overtime, Smith hit Ryan Kendall for the two-point conversion.

Forreston answered with a Jordan Neuschwander score in its half of overtime, but Milledgeville stopped the two-point conversion.

Smith also hit Daniel Lohnes for a seven-yard score early in the fourth quarter to tie the game at 6-6.

Neuschwander reeled in a 60-yard touchdown pass from Lukas Lingel on the first play from scrimmage.

Byron 24, Oregon 16: In a game played at Mendota, the Hawks could not quite pull off the upset of the Tigers.

It was a game not initially on the schedule for either team. Oregon was slated to play Rockford Lutheran and Byron was going to play Dixon before those games had to be called off. This game was scheduled as a replacement.

The game was tied 8-8 at halftime before Byron outscored the Hawks 16-8 in the second half.

Galena 53, West Carroll 0: The Thunder were shut out in the coaching debut of Teo Clark in a game played at Southwestern High in Hazel Green, Wisconsin.

The Pirates scored 21 points in the first quarter to get off to a fast start, then added to the lead early in the second quarter, leading 41-0 at halftime.
