Sycamore rolls past Sandwich behind Tommy Townsend’s bat, Ethan Storm’s arm

Tommy Townsend doubled three times, Ethan Storm pitched a four-inning one-hitter, and Sycamore defeated host Sandwich, 17-0, in Interstate 8 Conference baseball action Monday.

Townsend finished 4 for 4 with four RBIs to pace an offense that also included Ethan Steele going 3 for 3 with a triple, three runs scored and two RBIs. Keifer Tarnoki was 2 for 2 with three runs scored and two RBIs, and Hunter Britz went 2 for 3 with three RBIs and two runs scored.

Storm struck out nine and walked three.

Earlville 12, Indian Creek 8: At Indian Creek, the Timberwolves lost in Little Ten Conference action, despite Drew Gaston going 4 for 4 with a double and two RBIs.

Gage Oleson also doubled for Indian Creek, and Jordan Wortman was 2 for 4 with an RBI.

Hiawatha 4, Hinckley-Big Rock 1: At Hinckley-Big Rock, Ben Hintzsche had a single for the Royals’ lone hit in their Little Ten loss.

SOFTBALL

Kaneland 3, Morris 2: At Kaneland, McKenna Ryan and Grace Algrim combined on a two-hitter, and the Knights pulled out the win in Interstate 8 action.

Ryan surrendered two runs on two hits over four innings, striking out five and walking one. Algrim threw three innings in relief to earn the save.

Olivia Ortegel was 2 for 3 with an RBI single for Kaneland.

La Salle-Peru 2, Sycamore 0: At La Salle-Peru, Emily Prebil (1-2) suffered the loss, despite allowing one earned run in five innings of the Interstate 8 game.

Paige Collie and Chelsea Born were both 1 for 3 for Sycamore.

GIRLS SOCCER

Sycamore 9, Rochelle 0: At Sycamore, Ella Shipley had a hat trick for the Spartans, who advanced to the semifinals of the Interstate 8 Tournament.

Sophia Binder and Kate Elsner added a pair of goals each. Abby Bourdage and Alyssa Akers also scored.
