Tyler Conklin struck out 15 batters in six innings, leading Kaneland’s baseball team to a 3-2 win over visiting LaSalle-Peru in an Interstate 8 Conference opener Monday.
Conklin scattered four hits before Logan Kottmeyer pitched a scoreless seventh, striking out the side to earn the save.
Patrick Collins delivered a two-RBI hit in the bottom of the sixth. Conklin also scored two runs.
The Knights travel to LaSalle-Peru for their next game Wednesday.
Sycamore 21, Plano 6: At Plano, the Spartans erupted for 15 runs in the final three innings.
Jimmy Amptmann (2 for 4, four RBIs), Byron Blaise (3 for 4, four RBIs) and Hunter Britz (3 for 3, two RBIs) all homered for Sycamore, which pounded out 20 hits. Joey Puleo (three RBIs) and Jacob Reidl tripled, and Tommy Townsend doubled twice. Puleo, Max Breidenbach, Blake Novinsky and Ethan Storm also had doubles.
Naperville North 3, DeKalb 0: At Naperville North, Jared Schultz pitched a complete game for the Barbs, giving up five hits and one earned run.
DeKalb managed only three hits.
Indian Creek 7, Leland 3: At Indian Creek, Blake McRoberts (1-0) earned the win and went 2 for 3 with an RBI for the Timberwolves in their Little Ten Conference opener.
Kalab Helgesen was 3 for 4 with three runs scored and three stolen bases for IC (1-2).

Naperville Central 12, DeKalb 1: At DeKalb, the Barbs dropped their home opener.
BOYS TENNIS
DeKalb 4, Marengo 0: At DeKalb, the Barbs received wins from singles players Ben Grych and Hunter Davis and the doubles teams of Zach Kaczka/Pano Tsiftilis and Matteo Bennardo/Yair Nunez.
BOYS TRACK
Indian Creek meet: At Shabbona, the host Timberwolves totaled 99 points to comfortably outdistance runner-up Newark (72) in the five-team meet.
Cameron Russell posted wins in the triple jump, long jump and 400 for IC.
Lucas Woodbury won the 100 and 200 for IC, and Cole Oleson finished first in the high jump.
GIRLS TRACK
Indian Creek meet: At Shabbona, Newark finished first with 68 points, 15 more than the host Timberwolves in the five-team competition.
Brooke Probst (high jump), Caroline Bend (800) and Jill Shotsberger (100) all had first-place finishes for IC.
