Thieves takes $30,000 worth of jewelry, watches from Downers Grove home

DOWNERS GROVE - Sixty pieces of men's and women's jewelry and watches valued at more than $30,000 reportedly were stolen from a house in Downers Grove while the homeowners were out of state, according to a Downers Grove Police Department report.

The burglary occurred between noon Dec. 7 and 11:30 a.m. Dec. 8 at a house in the 1500 block of 35th Street, the report said.

The homeowners returned from Wisconsin to find the front door of the house forced open. The door appeared to be either pried or kicked open, the report stated. The locked rear sliding glass door was found open as well.

Among the jewelry reported missing was a gold diamond ring valued at $2,000, four bracelets with a combined value of $6,500, a herringbone necklace with a diamond valued at $2,000, a pearl necklace valued at $3,800, several watches valued at about $6,000 and numerous rings.
