Competitive cheerleading: Plainfield South, East head to state meet

The competitive cheerleading teams of Plainfield South and Plainfield East both have qualified for this weekend’s state meet at U.S. Cellular Coliseum in Bloomington.

Both also performed Wednesday night at South during the District 202 Special Olympics basketball game on Pack the Place Night.

South will compete in the co-ed division at state after finishing second in the Normal West Sectional. East is a large-team division qualifier after finishing fourth at Normal West.

This is South’s second time qualifying for state and first time in the co-ed division. The Cougars also placed second in the Southwest Prairie Conference Meet in mid-January.

East is going to state for the first time as an all-girls team and second time overall.

“I am extremely proud of this team,” Bengals coach Samantha Bosi said. “They have overcome much adversity over this past season, and it is amazing to see them be rewarded for their hard work.”

The South roster includes Jenna Anderson, Cadey Chartrand, Orlando DeYoung, Nicole Drabek, Lilly Goorsky, Madi Hall, Jessica Jefferson, Valerie Kacinskas, Nate Lopez, Aubry Mikel, Kali Parson, Alyssa Plata, Jessica Promin, Alexis Rello, Nicolette Simmons, Caitlin Smicklas, Ashley Suddreth, Bria Trenor, Gracie Treptow, Brittany Vihnanek and Alyssa Visage.

Brooke Twohill is the Cougars’ coach, assisted by Keri Storako.

The East roster consists of Kaila Goss, Camryn Lang, Jena Hassert, Melissa Mazurkiewicz, Brooklyn Burgess, Brooklin Marshall, Marisa Romita, Alaina Reitz, Gisselle Martinez, Ashley Gonzalez, Jeanine Circelli, Jannet Salas, Chloe Boreselino, Gabi Trajkovski, Isabella Wayne, Amber Waughop, Ivie Ogbomo, Carli Rodriguez, DeMara Gilbreath, Brianna Bresnahan, Veronica Michalka and Sydney May.

Bosi is assisted by Victoria Cetina, with Jamal Bruce and Stephanie Czarnik serving as volunteer assistants.
