Schulte, Weidner pace area at Oregon Open

Runners from Amboy/LaMoille, Bureau Valley, Hall, Ohio and Princeton ran in Saturday’s Oregon Open on a hot, humid day.

Top Bureau County finishers were Ohio’s Johnee Schulte, who placed 25th with a time of 18:22.5, and Bureau Valley’s Haley Weidner, who was fifth with the same time she had last year, 20:23.4.

Race winners on the day were Nick Monkemeyer of Rockford Christian and Brianna Bower (19:39) of Kaneland.

There were no team scores kept.

Yulion Osorio led the BV boys with a 38th-place time of 18:46.6, running a minute faster than a year ago. Also for the Storm, Morgan Strader was 51st (19:13.7), Bradley Sirens 72nd (20:13), Trevor Griffin 93rd (21:50.1) and Austin Catton 104th (23:05.3).

“We sat a lot of kids out who are nursing injuries, so we were a little thin on our depth. We ran pretty good considering this is our first meet, and the heavy humidity,” BV coach Dale Donner said.

For the Princeton boys, Cody Workman was 26th (18:22), Dillon Forbeck was 102nd (23:01), Jakob Henderson was 103rd (23:53) and Chris Irlbeck was 111th (25:29).

Hall’s Gage Ripka came in 80th (21:00) and Lorenzo Olivares was 98th (22:18). Westley Schmidt gave Hall a 11th-place showing (19:16) in the JV race and Ethan Cattani was 17th (19:43).

Noe Flores led Putnam County with a 12th-place time of 17:31.2.

Brianna Legner led the Princeton girls with a 24th-place time of 22:34. Also for PHS, Casey Schertz was 94th (27:28) and Michelle Harris was 109th (31:08).

In the JV girls race, PHS’ Rebekah Workman was 15th (25:10), Lydia Mead was 17th (25:14), Lauren McMillan 28th (25:47), Alisa Holmbeck 36th (26:28), Lindsey Wright 62nd (30:40) and Shaylynn Hartmann 63rd (30:43).

For the Hall varsity girls, Kaylee Olivares was 44th (23:49), Amelia Moreno 69th (25:32), Lindsey Conrad (26:21), Lizbeth Aldana 100th (28:22), Tanja Acamovic 105th (30:21) and Auyse Ruda (32:15).

For Bureau Valley, Heather Williams finished 66th (25:19.9), Marissa Mungia 75th (26:01.4), Hannah Williams 76th (26:02.3), Natalie Nugent 77th (26:02.8) and Marissa Zittle 83rd (26:18.4).

Amboy/LaMoille lead pack was paced by Megan Grady, 12th in 21:43, and Erin Hosto, 20th (22:16). Other Clippers were 25th Jen Popovich (22:43), 53rd Kaitlyn Ortiegiesen (24:35), 71st Kaitlin Boers (25:43), 82nd Kellynne Boyle (26:17) and 85th Cassidy Corcoran (26:26).

At Seneca: St. Bede ran in Saturday’s Seneca Twilight in the Woods Invite. For the St. Bede boys, Cartner Funfsinn, was 55th (21:35) and Brent Koogler was 59th (21:46). On the girls side, Annie Needs came in 33rd (24:43).

Team champs were the Morris boys (111) and the Plainfield North girls (35).

In the JV race for 2.3 miles, St. Bede’s Ryan Edwall was 13th (16:26), Andrew Horn 17th (17:04), Jake Hockings 33rd (20:40), Mario Cote 37th (21:05), Thomas Fauth 40th (22:01) and Ken Wiltse 41st (22:57).

The St. Bede JV girls included 32nd Harleigh Rice (21:54), 42nd Rachel Sickley (23:13), 55th Alison Fauth (26:23) and 61st Michelle Williams (28:53).

Soccer

Depue 3, Somonauk 1: David Moreno had two goals and Edgar Moreno two assists to lift the Little Giants Saturday, Sept. 5 at DePue.

Also scoring for DePue, were Ramon Gavin and Oscar Garcia.

DePue kept Somonauk off the board until the 72nd minute.
