More importantly, Selman and five of his teammates advanced to this weekend’s Leyden individual sectional.
Selman knocked off Jacob Drew of Glenbard East, 5-2, in the final. Alex Morreale was the runner-up at 160. Placing third were Charles Faber (106), Pernevlon Sheppard (138), Collin Knowlton (170) and Jordan Hassan (220), with the latter notching a 3-2 win in his final match to move on.
Regional champ and state powerhouse Oak Park-River Forest qualified a wrestler at each of the 14 weight classes, which essentially left just two sectional tourney berths at each weight for the other eight schools competing at the regional.
Just missing out on qualifying for the sectional were Andrew Posegay (145), Patrick Thurmond (152) and Nik Hollensbe (182), with that trio all finishing fourth in their respective weight classes.
The Hilltoppers compiled a team score of 123, which was just seven points behind the host Rams. OPRF ran away with first-place (283).
