STERLING – Gira Patel, McKenna Pearson, and Callie Sinn, all of Sterling High School, and Ryan Schaab of Newman Central Catholic High School, have been named CGH Medical Center Summer Scholars.

They will work one-on-one with CGH doctors, while attending lectures about careers in the health care field, and completing one research project relevant to public health. Each student also will receive a $1,500 scholarship for their college education.

The program was created in 2012 by Dr. Michael DeFranco and Dr. Paul Steinke, CGH president and CEO.

Students will rotate between the emergency department, family medicine, nursing, surgery, physical therapy/occupational therapy, and an elective of their choice.

Patel’s interests include pediatrics and dentistry. Her plans are to attend Loyola University.

Pearson plans to attend Creighton University to study anesthesiology.

Schaab is interested in becoming a doctor. He plans to attend the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Sinn’s plans include medical field study at Marquette University.
