And the Oscar stylist is...

Brandi Weber, a hair stylist at Visions Salon in McHenry, spent the week in Hollywood working in one of the hospitality rooms for the Academy Awards.

A stylist’s dream, the trip came about after Weber was selected from among about 80 others to represent Surface, a hairstyling product carried by the salon.

“It’s created a little buzz in the salon,” owner Jenny Villicana said.

The business sent Weber off by decorating with Hollywood signs and announcing the trip to its customers.

“You think of all the salons in the country, and [she was chosen] out of all the educators in that company, it’s pretty cool,” Villicana said.

Weber, 30, has done sales and education for Surface for the past 10 years. She has worked at the salon since becoming a shampoo girl at age 15. She became a hairstylist 11 years ago.

Throughout the pre-Oscar week, celebrities, producers and anyone else involved with the Oscars could stop by a hospitality room to get their hair styled by Weber or learn more about the product.

Many celebrities stop by the hospitality rooms to prepare for various Oscar pre-parties, she said. Weber was scheduled to leave Hollywood this morning and will not actually attend the ceremony.

The past couple of years, Weber said, she was told the cast of “Entourage,” an HBO series, stopped by the Surface hospitality room because the men liked the product Crave, a type of styling paste.

Another fan of Surface is Candace Cameron, best known for her work on “Full House,” Weber said.

“It could really be anyone,” she said of whom she expected to see throughout the week.

Regardless of whom she meets, she said before she left that she looked forward to “being able to be around the atmosphere of the Oscars and sharing what I know about hair with them and the product line of Surface.”

Surface hair products, www.surfacehair.com, are all natural and "good for us, good for our earth and good for our clients," she said.

Created several years ago, the products are salon exclusive and becoming more well-known, Weber said.

As a sales representative of the company, she travels to salons to promote the product, which was inspired by Wayne Grund, a hair stylist and salon owner.

“In our industry, there’s a lot of toxicity with chemicals in general,” Weber said. “This line is going away form that aspect.”
