The Sycamore volleyball team won the Sterling Invite by defeating Sterling 25-11, 25-7 in the tournament final on Saturday.
The Spartans (17-2) won all five matches they played. The closest match ended up being a 20-18, 20-14 win over Rockford Christian in pool play.
Sycamore had 82 kills and 23 aces as a team. Evyn McCoy led the way with 26 kills while Brittany Olson had 23.
Jill Johnson, Stephanie Huber and Kate Binder had 11 kills while Johnson added 67 assists, Justine Schepler had 48 digs and Sarah Verkler had 32 digs.
"It was a great offensive day," Sycamore coach Debbie Klock said. "Sterling was pretty tough, they didn't play to their potential at the end."
The Spartans host Rochelle on Tuesday and Kaneland on Thursday.
Royals win on homecoming: Hinckley-Big Rock beat Leland-Earlville 25-16, 25-20.
Jenna Thorp had nine kills, seven digs and 12 service points. Katie Hollis added six kills and three blocks, Cassie Kroner had four blocks, Kaitlin Phillips added four kills, Alyssa Baunach had six digs and Heather Weissinger had 13 digs.
"The Raiders were up to our challenge, but our late game spurt set us apart," coach Don Watson said. "It allowed me to get everyone some PT effort on the court."
BOYS GOLF
Barbs 2nd at L-P: DeKalb finished in second place to Providence Catholic on a fifth-score tiebreaker at the LaSalle-Peru Invite with a team score of 301.
Andrew Morreale led the way with a 72 while Cody Schmitt shot 73, Mason Struthers shot 77, Garret Hall shot 79, Jackson Hill shot 86 and Nick Canduso shot 87.
BOYS SOCCER
Royals win big: Hinckley-Big Rock scored three goals in the first seven minutes of the second half as they rolled to a 5-1 win over Newark on homecoming.
Rob McKenzie scored a pair of goals while Jacob Dunteman, Bernie Conley and Alex Hemesath all scored as well. The Royals will open the Little Ten Tournament as the third seed on Monday.
T'wolves fall: Indian Creek (8-10) continued its late-season struggles by losing 1-0 to Mendota, the Timberwolves fifth consecutive loss.
"We've been struggling on offense since we lost two forwards to injury," Timberwolves coach Eric Schrader said. "Our only goal in the past four games was a penalty kick scored by one of our defenders."
Batavia tops Kaneland: Anders Winquist-Bailey scored the Knights' (5-10-1, 1-4 Western Sun) lone goal in a 7-1 loss to Batavia.
Somonauk falls: Nick Erasmus scored a pair of goals as Somonauk (13-2-2) lost to Westminster Christian 3-2.
GIRLS GOLF
Royals finish 15th: Hinckley-Big Rock was 15th with a 456 at the Rosary Invite. Megan Gregg finished seventh in a playoff after shooting a 91. Bridgette Edmeier shot a 112. The Royals will compete at the Rock Falls Regional on Wednesday.
BOYS CROSS COUNTRY
Knights finish first: Kaneland's Trevor Holm won the Freeport Invite on Saturday in 16:19.14 as the Knights took first place. Kaneland's Dominic Furco was third (16:30.18).
Indians fourth: Sandwich finished fourth out of nine teams at Wheaton Academy. Mike Gaydos (16:31) finished second and Stephen Clark (17:17) finished sixth.
GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY
Kaneland second: Andie Strang (19:51) led the way for Kaneland to finish second at the Freeport Invite. Ashley Castellanes (20:17) finished 11th for the Knights.
Sandwich sixth: The Indians scored 153 points and finished sixth at Wheaton Academy. Laurel Skorup (21:42) led the way, in 21st place, while April Jennings (22:39) finished 31st.
