Charlotte Yates's first goal of the season opened up the Sycamore scoring, Cortni Kruizenga's two goals in 80 seconds sealed it, and Izzie Segreti had a wild Hail Mary go in as the Spartans beat Rock Island 5-0 to claim a regional title Friday.

The Sycamore girls soccer team defeated Rock Island Friday afternoon to win the Class 2A regional final at Sycamore High School.

Kessiah Purnell scored the game-winning goal in the 91st minute to help Plainfield East to a 2-1 victory over Kaneland, while Geneva had five different goal scorers to secure a 7-0 victory in the Class 2A Geneva Regional semifinals.

The Hinckley-Big Rock/Somonauk/Leland and Serena/Newark/Earlville co-op girls soccer teams each played solid throughout Thursday 2-2 tie in a match held at Serena High School.

Sycamore striker Cortni Kruizenga didn’t just score a goal in the 34th minute to break a scoreless tie against rival DeKalb in El Classicorn, she made a spectacular defensive play in the 73rd minute to preserve the Spartans’ 2-0 home win over the Barbs.

The DeKalb girls soccer team made the short trip to Sycamore Thursday to take on the Spartans.

Lana Walker doesn’t have much experience playing goalie. But she has plenty of experience hitting the ground and diving after her target, which certainly came in handy for the Sycamore senior Wednesday against Kaneland in the Spartans’ 2-1 win against their Interstate 8 rivals.
