Mildred E. Clothier, 87, Oregon, formerly of Polo, passed away Saturday, July 25, 2009 at Pinecrest Manor, Mt. Morris.
Mildred was born February 4, 1922, in Polo, the daughter of John and Mabel (Davis) Scholl.
After graduation from Polo Community High School in 1939 and attending Northern Illinois Teachers College at DeKalb for two years, she married Robert Roland Clothier on September 7, 1941. They were married for 58 years before his death in 1999.
Their early years were spent in Iowa City, Iowa, Ithaca, NY, and Boston, Mass. Upon their return to Polo, Mildred was active in the Polo United Methodist Church, served as a 4-H leader and was a lifelong member of her Bridge Club originated in 1937 and a current member of the 39'ers Club (Polo class of 1939).
Mildred was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, Canton, where she and Bob resided from 1966-86. After his retirement, they returned to the Polo-Oregon area.
Mildred's family was her first priority and she was such a role model for all of us. She was a Chicago Cubs fan and a very strong supporter of the Iowa Hawkeyes.
Survivors include daughters, Laurel (Ken) Smith, Oregon and Carol (John) Kohler, Canton; sons, Laurence (Mary) Clothier, Mt. Morris, Robert (Denise) Clothier, Washington, Ill., Carl Clothier, Oregon and John Clothier, Mt. Morris; brothers, Arnold (Margaret) Scholl and Myron (Karen) Scholl; nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and three great great-grandchildren; sister-in-laws: Patricia Schumm of Hudson, and Dorothy Clothier of Polo.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert R. Clothier, and sister, Marian Deets Ethridge.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, July 29, at 11 a.m. at Polo United Methodist Church, Polo.
Family burial services will be held at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Dixon, preceding the memorial service.
A memorial has been established to Polo United Methodist Church, East Jordan United Methodist Church, and Ogle County Hospice
The family has requested the omission of flowers.
