Amidst a pandemic, golf enthusiasts and friends of Silver Cross Hospital continue to support the hospital’s Foundation, raising $116,55 to advance heart care services by participating in the Heroes for Hearts Charity Golf (un) Outing over the summer.
“For the past 28 years, the Silver Cross Foundation has put on a golf outing in June,” said Rudy Mahalik, Jr., Silver Cross Charity Golf Classic Chairman. “However, with the widespread COVID-19 virus, we did not want to put anyone’s health and safety in jeopardy by hosting a large gathering. Instead, we decided to host what we dubbed an (un) outing. This way, golfers had the option to play if and when they felt comfortable anytime between July and October while still supporting Silver Cross Hospital’s surgical heart program. It really was a win-win for everyone.”
Golfers received a special quarantine swag bag along with a gourmet boxed lunch, refreshments, balls, tees, and cart at Cog Hill Golf & Country Club. Sponsors could choose to play either the world-famous Dubsdread or the Ravines Courses and had an opportunity to win prizes.
This year’s presenting sponsor was Reed Construction. Other sponsors donating $5,000 or more included Capital Strategies Investment Group, Cardiothoracic & Vascular Surgical Associates, Czerkies Properties, EM Strategies, First Midwest Bank, Lubna Sweiss, PFS Group, Sentinel, Silver Cross Medical Staff, Silver Oaks Behavioral Hospital, and Superior Ambulance. A complete list of sponsors and raffle prize donors is available at www.silvercross.org/giving.
Proceeds from the (un) outing will support the Campaign for Heart Care to benefit Silver Cross Hospital’s new open heart and structural heart surgical program. Silver Cross is investing $22 million to provide innovative, multi-specialty care for patients with advanced and complex coronary disease. This includes adding two state-of-the-art operating rooms, a hybrid room equipped with advanced medical imaging devices to support minimally invasive surgery, two recovery rooms, two ICU rooms and 3D cardiac technology for an electrophysiology lab.
The new surgical services will be located in a 33,000-square-foot addition on the east side of the Silver Cross campus. A dedicated patient elevator will connect the new operating rooms to a dedicated cardiac step-down unit. The entire project will be completed in early 2021.
Tracy Simons, Executive Director of the Silver Cross Foundation added, “At a time when there is so much uncertainty in the world, we are grateful for the generosity of our many sponsors and benefactors for their continued support. Even with COVID-19, heart disease remains the top health issue and cause of death in our community. Every dollar donated gets us one step closer to bringing lifesaving cardiac surgery like coronary artery bypass and minimally invasive valve replacements to treat patients at Silver Cross Hospital.”
The 30th annual Silver Cross Charity Golf Classic will be held Monday, June 28, 2021 at Crystal Tree Country Club. For more information or to make a donation to support the Campaign for Heart Care, visit www.silvercross.org or call the Silver Cross Foundation at (815) 300-7105.
