A 45-year-old pedestrian was killed after he was struck by a vehicle in Joliet, police said.
About 5:45 p.m. Wednesday, officers responded to the 1400 block of Essington Road and determined Chicago resident Mark Molitoris was walking across the street when he was struck by a vehicle, according to a statement from the Joliet Police Department.
The 21-year-old driver of the vehicle remained at the scene of the crash and was fully cooperative with the investigation, police said. The driver was not injured.
Molitoris was taken to AMITA Health Saint Joseph Medical Center in Joliet, where he succumbed to his injuries, police said.
The crash remains under investigation by the Joliet police traffic unit.
Molitoris’ autopsy was scheduled for Thursday.
