Weekend lane closures slated for I-80 in Joliet

IDOT predicts ‘major delays’ and suggests motorists plan alternative routes

Weekend lane and ramp closures on westbound Interstate 80 in Joliet will start at 10 p.m. Friday for road repairs and pavement patching.

The Illinois Department of Transportation noted in a news release that the work and closures are dependent on the weather, but said “major travel delays are anticipated” and motorists should plan alternative routes.

Lane closures will take place on westbound I-80 between Rowell and Wheeler avenues.

Ramps will be closed at the westbound I-80 ramp to Chicago Street (also U.S. 52/Illinois 53) and the entrance ramp from Richards Street to westbound I-80.

At least one westbound lane will remain open at all times. Detours will be posted for the ramps. Eastbound I-80 will not be affected.

All lanes and ramps will reopen by 5 a.m. Monday.

Additional weekend lane closures will be scheduled on eastbound and westbound I-80, including various ramp closures with detours in the coming weekends to complete the work.
