Tornado warning for Will County

Central Will County was under a tornado warning Tuesday afternoon.

“We’ve seen several cases of large hail with these storms,” said meteorologist Brian Leatherwood. “Some of the hail has been golf ball-sized or even bigger.”

Leatherwood said Tuesday’s storm is fast-moving and should only stick around about 90 minutes. But it could be an intense 90 minutes of “really serious rainfalls and a lot of lightning,” he said.

A cold front that’s making the air unstable is the cause of the storm. But once the storm passes, that should be it for the evening, Leatherwood said.

In the meantime, Leatherwood said people should pay attention to changes in the weather.

“I know sometimes people don’t pay attention, but in this case, they need to seek shelter,” Leatherwood said.

The tornado watch lasted from 3 to 3:30 p.m.
